The Body Knows

The Body Knows

Tension digs deeply into my flesh,
Talons of an invisible but very real monster
Grasp my muscle into tightly balled clumps.
Pain flares outward,
Radiating at touch or sudden motions,
Reminders streaming down shoulders, or
Climb up my neck like pernicious vines
Vertically scaling to reach the skull
So a blinding pain might ache and throb from the very top.
Somehow the bodily pain
Holds captive my tears
Formed for reasons I do not quite know,
Waiting for somebody to put enough pressure,
And care,
Into that particular place.
Mmmhm, right there at the shoulder blades,
Press really hard,
And harder still,
For the force of my holding back is strong indeed,
Iron claws sunk into tender flesh.
Break the hold and release the emotion,
Please,
I don’t not want to go through alone,
Free the waterfall of tears held back
That my flow might begin again.
